| About
David Bruce
Vineyard Wines |
David
Bruce
Winery
has
earned
an international
reputation
throughout
its
nearly
four
decades
for
its
dedication
to producing
the
greatest
pinot
noir
in the
world.
In pursuit
of this
goal,
the
David
Bruce
Winery
has
adhered
to traditional
European
winemaking
practices
that
trace
their
lineage
back
to the
early
pioneers
of winemaking
in the
Santa
Cruz
Mountains
and
Santa
Clara
Valley.
David
Bruce
Winery
has
also
been
at the
forefront
of efforts
to develop
innovative
new
methods
that
have
changed
the
face
of winemaking
in California.

2000
Cabernet
Sauvignon
Once
one
of California’s
prominent
winegrowing
regions,years
of urban
expansion
forced
many
growers
out
of the
Santa
Clara
Valley.
Fine
vineyards
remain
however,in
the
foothills
of our
Santa
Cruz
Mountains
where
this
wine
was
born.
We begin
with
small,
open
top
fermentations,emphasize
gentle
handling,and
bottle
without
fining
or filtration.
This
wine
exhibits
forward
dark
cherry
and
berry
tinged
with
hints
of ripe
loganberry.
Rosemary,pepper
and
cedar
accent
the
fruit
without
overpowering
it,and
the
palate
is rich
and
supple
with
ample
gut
balanced
tannins.
While
drinking
well
now,this
wine
should
reward
aging
for
a few
years
in a
proper
cellar.

Chardonnay
This
wine
brings
together
fruit
from
three
different
vineyards
in the
Santa
Cruz
Mountains
- our
own
Estate,
R bar
R Ranch
and
Split
Rail
Vineyards.
While
within
the
same
appellation,
each
site
lends
it's
own
unique
character
to the
blend.
The
Estate
component
comprises
all
of our
late
vineyard
picks
and
thus
accentuates
ripe
tropical
fruits.
Split
Rail,
several
miles
from
David
Bruce,
lends
earthiness
and
a light,
smokey
complexity
to the
wine.
R bar
R Ranch,
one
of the
coolest
sites
we work
with,
produces
a wine
with
bright
citrus
fruits
and
lively
acidity,
providing
freshness
and
structure
for
the
blend.
The
finished
wine
strikes
a nice
balance
between
richness
and
freshness,
with
far
greater
complexity
that
any
of its
parts.

Petite
Syrah
We have
made
more
petite
syrah
from
this
vineyard
over
the
last
two
decades
than
any
other,and
continue
to marvel
at the
consistency
and
quality
it displays.
With
a signature
of blueberries
in the
nose,and
hints
of spices
and
mint
beneath,
the
wine
manages
to be
both
powerful
and
refined.
We limit
the
extraction
of tannin
to keep
the
palate
soft
and
approachable
making
it quite
pleasant
in its
youth.
The
wide
array
of flavors
match
with
foods
that
might
overwhelm
a simpler
wine,
but
expect
it to
surprise
you
with
versatility
and
pair
with
lighter
meals
just
as well
as hearty
ones.
The
supple
texture
and
balance
in the
wine
should
allow
aging
for
up to
five
years.We
also
think
it drinks
extremely
well
now.

Winery
2000
Pinot
Noir
This
wine
follows
in the
footsteps
of our
very
successful
1999
bottling
from
the
Truchard
vineyard,and
if anything
sets
the
standard
for
quality
higher
still.
The
2000
vintage
gave
us ideal
ripening
conditions
without
waves
of heat
pushing
sugars
up faster
than
flavors
in the
grape
could
mature.
The
resulting
wine
displays
rich
dark
cherry
aromas
accented
with
notes
of violets
and
spice,
supported
by toast
and
faint
smoke
from
the
barrel.
In the
mouth
the
wine
is beautifully
integrated,
with
oak
supporting
rather
than
dominating,and
fruit
lingering
well
into
the
finish.
With
a combination
of balance,
suppleness,
and
concentrated
fruit
flavors,
this
wine
should
age
gracefully
for
the
next
five
years.
