Franschhoek is located within the larger area of Paarl. In addition to
benefiting from its excellent winegrowing location, the region's
inhabitants trace their roots back to 17th century France, a legacy
that some feel can still be detected in a more elegant character in its
wines. Given that the region is best known for sherry-style wines, this
may simply be wishful thinking.
