2000 Chateau Haut Brion

Chateau tasting notes:
Beautiful color, very deep with a mixing of the Haut-Brion ruby and its purple-violet shade of youth. Swishing the wine around in the glass gives a notion of its density. This complexity is followed up in the aromas that suddenly burst forth all at once: a woody hint of fine polished oak, mulberry jam, cherry pits, a touch of blackcurrant, and the bittersweet of mango. One discovers this complexness again with even more violence in the mouth. The specific notes of this vintage: the finesse of mocha, the toasted trace of praline all join with the above, melding together with tannins of great complexity and softness. The finish is never ending… Exceptional bottle.

To be drunk today, tomorrow and surely even 100 years from now.

1974 Chateau Haut Brion

About 1974 Bordeaux:
There are many similarities between 1973 and 1974. The two years saw months of June and August that were hot or normally so. July 1974 was normal, September rainy (100 mm.) and cold. The coloring of the grapes was late. On the whole, very good wines were produced throughout Bordeaux.

Chateau tasting notes
An astonishing wine considering the year. The perfume is clean and powerful. In the mouth it is rich and complex, very long, noble and harmonious.

1985 Chateau Haut Brion

About 1985 Bordeaux:
A great wine of a late year. A drought never seen, one of the hottest years of this Century but a few days of fog early September helped the grapes that had been dying off to ripen.

Chateau tasting notes:
A great Haut-Brion, velvety and with a great elegance. A poweful wine, complex and with a long finishing. An outstanding bottle

 1979 Haut Brion

About 1979 Bordeaux :
Rainy spring, hot in July, cool in August, but dry generally. Only three very hot days. From the first, a great wine of a "late" year. The wines will take much time to mature. Perhaps a better year than 1978.

Chateau tasting notes:
Tannic and complex wines, very typical of the estate. Excellent overall impression: well-blended tannin, much style, breed and power.

1965 Haut Brion

About 1965 Bordeaux :
The months of July and August were essentially normal, though hot, with average rainfall (42 mm. in August for which the average is 50 mm.). The month of September (with 212 mm. of rain) made the year a disaster. The result: a lightning-fast lowering of the quality of the grapes. On the whole the wines are questionable.

Chateau tasting notes
This is the sort of wine, from a great growth in a poor year, for which one must know how to wait. The '65 Haut-Brion only now is beginning to develop: it already has character; the bouquet of an old wine appears with hints of mushroom, wood. The tannin needs to age a little longer. Astonishing for the vintage.
