| Rated 89. The 2004 Rudesheimer Berg Rottland Riesling Spatlese smells of very ripe apricot, yellow plum preserves and subtle brown spices and a nip of botrytis. These same themes are allied on the palate to a salty, pungently mineral streak and swell to extroverted proportions. Nearly 90 grams of residual sugar are checked by the wine’s acid and structure so that it somehow doesn’t come off finishing with overwhelming sweetness. I suspect that there is a lot in reserve, even as regards very short-term evolution, and the wine should be a good 15 to 20 year keeper in the cellar as well. - Robert Parker |
